It's being dubbed as a "physically-based casual interface". At its simplest, it looks more like your average desk with piles of papers, worksheets and books – all that's missing are the sticky notes.
After viewing the video and reading their background information one comes to realize it becomes a pretty intuitive way of representing digital artifacts with a physical metaphor that is tied to a physics engine and coupled with a unique gesture interface. Could be a generational step over the desktop interface we are all accustomed to…
I love the idea! I have my desktop arranged spatially now and I almost need the full two monitors worth of space. Animation programs here, rendering here, utility programs in the other corner… If I could stack it up, it would be amazing..
